Stand Your Ground by Joel Orellana

Stand Your Ground by Joel Orellana

I recall a pivotal moment when my faith was truly tested. Shortly after starting my current job, coworkers invited me to join them for drinks. It would have been easy to make the wrong choice and stray from the Lord’s guidance. However, I chose to honor God rather than seek the approval of others by declining their invitation and sharing my personal convictions. Interestingly, the invitations didn’t stop. To them, such outings might seem harmless and socially acceptable. Yet, as a believer, I strive to avoid activities that neither honor God nor draw me closer to Him.

Taking a stand for our faith often requires us to make difficult choices, even at the risk of upsetting others. But I would rather disappoint the world than lose my connection to the power of God’s presence and His Word.

Ephesians 6:13-14 reminds us: “Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.”

Over the years, I’ve been able to build meaningful relationships with those same coworkers and even offer prayer for them if they ever need it. Though they may not be seeking the Lord yet, my prayer is that they, too, will experience His peace, joy, and salvation through Jesus Christ.

As we enter this new year, let us stand firm, equipped with His Word, spreading truth, hope, and the eternal message of Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit. Stand your ground, equip yourself, and testify boldly. That is the mission.
